At the request of the national and local government, the painter André Brasilier created a mural in the Chapelle Saint Blaise, about 400km south-west of Paris in the prefecture of Correze. A completion ceremony for the mural was held on May 12, 2008.

The present church was established at the begining of the 16th century by Geoffroy de Pompadour on a site first occupied by a church in the 12th century. It flourished in the 18th century as the church of the domains of Louis XV's mistress, the Marchioness Pompadour. Following that time, it underwent numerous renovations before a wholesale renovation commenced in 2006. Pompadour is particularly well known as the birthplace of many famous horses.

At 300㎡, the mural is a massive fresco covering ceiling and walls. Its subject matter is taken from both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible, and includes the creation of the heavens and earth.

In social terms, the creation of a mural in response to a request from a national and local government for the renovation of a historical church has great significance. Being thus able to leave a work to those of the centuries to come is an honor for any painter. Henri Matisse, Marc Chagalle and Léonard Foujita have also created church murals.

The completion ceremony took place on May 12, 2008, in beautiful early summer weather. 500 guests were invited to celebrate the completion of the mural and the restoration of the church, not only from within France, but also from Germany, Russia, the United States, and other countries. Our company was invited as a Japanese presence.

After the initial welcome, the party proceeded to the church, and its mural. The great fresco was there in its vastness, depicting the artistic world of André Brasilier, beyond space and time. The party was held in a nearby castle, where the artist received the Pompadour Medal for his achievement.

Our company filmed this scene from the ceremony in high definition as part of the documentary we were marking of the artist. To acquaint as many people as possible with André Brasilier's achievements, a showing of the documentary is planned for the exhibition of his latest works, due to take place at Nihombashi Mitsukoshi Main Bldg. from October 14th. This exhibition will travel 3 cities Japan by March 2010.
